I've got so much time on my hands lately that it's given me the chance to catch up on some books that I've been meaning to read. I'm currently reading the The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, the last book of the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. I've got the first four books of A Game of Thrones on my bookshelf waiting to be checked off my must-read list. I did crack open the first book and got through the first point of view section. I'm love the show, but I will admit the books are little hard to get through, especially when I've seen what happens on show.
I'm a big fan of Lauren Conrad and really like reading posts from her blog. She has a book club on her website and I've been thinking about joining next month's pick. I've never been a part of a book club but it sounds interesting to discuss a book that others have read as well.
What do you guys think? Any suggestions for good reads? Or input on book clubs? I'd love to hear any of your ideas.
Yours truly,

What Now?...
This past May I graduated from college with a bachelors degree in biological sciences. Whoohoo! (Sidenote: Congrats to all my fellow graduates!!) My four years of hard work paid off, and I graduated with honors and with a degree in a field I wanted to work in. Previous to graduation I had decided that I wanted to take a year off before going to grad school. It was an idea that came to me suddenly and a decision that I made after much contemplation. However, when I came to the decision it felt right and less anxiety ridden than the thought of grad school. In hindsight, I wonder if I made the decision to take a year off because I needed a break from the institution of learning or anxiety of the process of finding the right grad school/program for me (or if I even wanted to go to grad school).
What I failed to foresee and fully comprehend was that I would be right back where I was before I left for college. This past summer I've been living in my old bedroom of my parents' house and working the same part time job. This has been my summer routines and on breaks when I came home from college. With no school or place to go after the summer ends, I realized that this was my reality and would be my reality for the next year until grad school or whatever I chose to do. The thought was slightly depressing and devastating. Sure, it was fine for summers and breaks in between, but a whole year of it was not so appealing. I couldn't and still can't imagine myself being happy with this monotonous and lack luster life I found myself fallen into.
So what's a gal to do with all this time off and nothing of great importance to do?? First off, I am applying to practically all and any jobs that are science research related. No bites as of late, but got my fingers crossed still. After some thinking I decided that maybe I should take this year in between undergrad and grad school as a blessing in disguise. This year in between gives me the chance to do some things that I've wanted to do, but never got around to. Think of it as an unofficial bucket list. One of the first things I've wanted to do was to start a blog. So this is it, my first post on my very own blog The Year in Between.
To anyone out there reading this post, thanks for checking out my blog. Sorry for the lengthy post, but I promise to do my best to keep it interesting and not so wordy in the future. And any tips for a newbie blogger would be very much appreciated. Once again, thank you for checking out my blog and I hope you follow me on my 'journey' in my year off!
Yours truly,
S
